CHARLIE MAMBO (My Leo Mambo x Doc Tivio Ann) RETIRED
5 Generation Lineage

The ranch's 1991 sorrel stallion, Charlie Mambo, by My Leo Mambo, an own son of Leo, and out of Doc Tivio Ann, is standing at the ranch. He is an own grandson of the original Leo sire, and has more than 31% Leo in his bloodlines. As a matter of fact, as far as we're aware, these are only two other horses in the world with more Leo blood in them than he has. His lineage is amazing and includes racing, roping, halter, and cutting.

Charlie Mambo's sire, My Leo Mambo, had strong racing bloodlines and was raced as a youngster. His second career peaked with an ROM, then the stallion's success in the show ring was dominated by his get. He was a producer of 57 performers that earned 3,325 points, 43 ROM Earners, 14 Working Superiors, one Champion, along with many World Show finalists.

"When we got the opportunity to buy Charlie Mambo, he was a principal stud for eight years at Wagon Wheel Ranch in Texas. The owner of that ranch is a concentration breeder and had a chance to buy another stallion that had 2% more Leo in him," says Don Engler, owner of Whispering Horse Ranch, "even though Charlie is what is classed as a genetic super horse.

"When we got him, Charlie was basically a range breeder on a 15,000-acre Texas ranch, and he hadn't been messed with since he was two years old when they did the initial 30 days on him. No one really knew what to expect, and only one problem surfaced. Charlie Mambo doesn't know he's supposed to act like a stallion-he doesn't bite, he doesn't kick, and he's gentle with the mares. One of our trainers even rode him bareback to round up mares. We feel very fortunate Charlie has turned out to be one of the gentlest horses on the entire ranch."

Charlie Mambo has been officially retired 2013.

BIT OF HEAT (Hollywood Heat x Bit Of Zan) DECEASED
5 Generation Lineage

Bit Of Heat was one of the premier stallions in the performance horse world, a 1999 beautiful dun with exceptional confirmation, standing 15.2 hands and weighing 1300 pounds. Trained and shown by Bobby Lewis, Bit Of Heat twice qualified for the World Show (Open) in Heading, once in Heeling and was a finalist in Heading.  In 2003 he was the Dixie National Champion in Heading at the Southern Classic Quarter Horse Show (Open).  In 2005 he won the Champion Heading Horse and the Purina Open Ranch Versatility events.

Qualified Jr Heeling World Show (2003-Open). Performance Register of Merit (2003-Open). Earned: 10 Performance Wins; 139.0 Performance Points; 1 Performance Register of Merit; 2 Performance Superior Awards.

Tragically, in 2008, Bit Of Heat fell ill with salmonella and had to be put down. While he will be missed here at Whispering Horse Ranch, he lives on through his many offspring still here at the ranch.
